Palms and body language

On Judge's recommendation, I downloaded Mehow's ebook. I've been reading Tyler's book, which has a lot of great info. But Tyler really isn't a very good writer, so Mehow's book, which reads very easily and quickly, is a nice break. Anyhow, early on he talks about how his default body language is his palms facing forward. I've heard plenty of people talk about "palms forward" before, but I've always just taken that to mean keeping my hands generally facing up and gesticulating with my palms facing forward.

Apparently Mehow actually walks around with his palms facing forward. This feels incredibly awkward when I do it, and looks like I'm trying to get someone to hug me. When he does it in an image for the book, though, it actually looks really good:

I'm totally shocked by this. Do you guys do this? I presume I can make this look good if I practice it in front of a mirror for a while, but I'm really surprised that doing that can look good at all.

Nice post Khaki -

Glad to hear you picked up Mehow and Tyler's material. TD's book is more about inner game and understanding social dynamics. I find it's crucial to use his concepts to frame all your actions against. This won't bring you instant results whereas Mehow's book is so full of good routines and methods, you can apply his stuff immediately and see results (evinced by the 2 month un-flake).

Anyway, about the palm forward BL, I think I know where Mehow pulled this from. In the "Definitive Book of Body Language" they devote a lot of attention to this posture as it signifies a nonthreatening pose (you're showing you're not holding a weapon). They have all kinds of statistics in that book like "63% of people were more resposive" blah blah. HOWEVER, I wouldn't recommend using it if it doesn't feel congruent to your frame. Personally, I like to approach on an angle, then, as the HBs engage, slowly turn toward them and open my BL. Once I reach hook point (usually about 2 minutes into the PU), I find something I can lean against and lock in. From there I run attraction material while actively qualifying them (it usually reinforces my frame that I'm there to be won over and they have to work to get my attention). However, this is my ideal BL and I probably only am able to run it as text book as I described above about 20 percent of the time.

Ditto Judge. Mehow probably does this during his approach because it is a vulnerable disarming posture, and he goes 'heeeeyyyy' or 'yoooooo' when he does this. he's acting like he's welcoming you to his party.
this is in total contrast to the MM of disqualifying, FTCing, body rocking away, etc etc. so try them both out and see what opens and what don't.
